Wynn, p 1-0-0 A close game was broken up in the eighth and the Left Outers take game 1 by a 10-4 score over the Kansas City Monarchs. Frank Robinson hit two home runs and had five RBI. Steve Carlton went seven innings for the win, striking out eight. Leroy Matlock wsa the loser after 5 1/3 innings allowing six runs on 12 hits. The Monarchs had the lead with two in the first and a solo home run in the second by Ray Dandridge. Turkey Stearnes tripled and scored in the fifth on Jud Wilson's single for a 4-2 lead. The Left Outers scored two in the fifth and two more in the sixth. The lead changed hands ona double by Jackie Robinson and a triple by Arky Vaughn.

Very cool stuff! It will be hard for KC to beat the Left Outers though! And probably the best team in the entire tourney is Post Nationals. I mean, how can they lose with that lineup?

The Left outers took a 3-0 lead after two. The Monarchs then scored seven runs the next three innings. Buck Leonard doubled a run home, then Jackie Robinson had an erro. Spoony Palm came up and drilled a three-run homer. The next inning, Ray Dandriged doubled in a run and Palm tripled him home. The Left outers got Satchel Paige off the mound in the eighth. In the ninth, Arky Vaughn led off with a round tripper of Hilton Smith. Smith loaded the bases, but got a 6-2-3 double play out of Frank Robinson, and a strikeout to preserve the win.

Spoony Palm hit two home runs for the Monarchs in a come from behind 6-5 win. Kansas City now leads the series two games to one.
The Left Outers led 4-2 after two innings. Palm's second homer of the day tied the game. Willie Wells hit a two-run homer in the fifth to go up 6-5.
Ray Brown pitched eight innings for the win. Leon Day loaded the bases with two out in the ninth but got the save. Ferguson Jenkins gave up six runs in seven innings for the loss.

Don Drysdale went eight innings in a 4-2 win to even the series for the Left Outers at two games apiece.
Jimmie Foxx drove in two runs with a single in the first. Hack Wilson hit a two-run homer in the sixth to make it 4-0. Rap Dixon plated two in the seventh for the Monarchs.
Drysdale gave up six hits in eight innings. Robin Roberts came on for the save in the ninth. Verdell Mathis was the loser, allowing four runs on five hits in six innings.

A huge blowout in game five by the Left Outers. A 14-5 win gives them a 3-2 lead in the series.
Steve Carlton dominated the game. He went seven innings for the win, allowing three runs on eight hits with five walks and seven strikeouts. In addition, he went 4 for 4 at the plate with a double, home run and three RBI.
The Monarchs went to Hilton Smith as the starter as he's been good out of the bullpen. He wasn't good in this one. Smith allowed eight runs, three earned, on seven hits in two innings of work.
Harry Heilmann hit a three-run homer in the top of the first. The Left Outers scored five runs in the second, wiht a three-run shot by Frank Robinson capping the inning.

The Left Outers held off the Kansas City Monarchs to win game six 6-5, and take the series four games to two.
Harry Heilmann tripled the first run of the game home for the Left Outers. In the fourth, Don Sutton helped himself with a two-run single. Jackie Robinson tripled a run home and a sac fly made the score 5-0.
The Monarchs pinch-hit for Satchel Paige in the top of the fifth to get something going, and Jud Wilson doubled in a run. Fats Jenkins doubled him home to make the score 5-2.
A passed ball put the Left Outers up 6-2. In the top of the eighth, Rap Dixon tripled home Willie Wells, and that brought Robin Roberts on in relief of Sutton. Buck Leonard doubled another run home, and the Monarchs pulled within one at 6-5. Kansas City put two men on base in the ninth but Roberts finished the game for the save.

A great opening game that went back and forth. The Old Timers rallied in the bottom of the ninth to win 9-8.
The Old Timers took a 3-0 lead. The Post Americans went in front 6-3. George Brett hit two home runs and Larry Doby cracked his first of the tournament. The Old Timers came back to tie the game 6-6.
The Post Americans scored two in the ninth off reliever John Clarkson on a double by Ted Williams. Rollie Fingers couldn't close it out in the bottom of the ninth. A single and then an error by Nellie Fox set the Old Timers up nicely. Billy Hamilton singled one run in but was thrown out stealing. Dan Brouthers tripled to tie the game and Sam Thompson singled him home to win it 9-8.

I played the whole series already. A great seven games. Game 2
Post Americans 4, Old Timers 1Scoreless until the sixth. The Old Timers get one run off Whitey Ford. Bottom of the inning, Mickey Mantle singles in a run, George Brett triples two home and a sac fly makes it 4-1. Ford goes eight for the win, allowing four hits. Hoyt Wilhelm gets the save. Al Spalding the loser. Game 3
Post Americans 3, Old Timers 2Bottom of the second, George Davis drive in one with a triple and a single by John Ward makes it 2-0. Same score, bottom of the ninth. Tim Keefe comes out after loading the bases with one out. Rod Carew ties the game with a two-run double off John Clarkson. Nellie Fox then wins it with a base hit. Game 4
Post Americans 8, Old Timers 7Jim Palmer gave up five runs in three innings. Pud Galvin gave up four runs in five innings. In the bottom of the eighth, Mickey Mantle hit a two-run homer, and Harmon Killebrew followed with a solo shot to tie the game. In the bottom of the ninth, Brooks Robinson walked and Luis Aparicio took over and stole second. Rod Carew won the game with a single. The Post Americans now lead the series three games to one. Old Timers 8, Post Americans 3Old Hoss Radbourn went six, giving up one run. Mickey Welch pitched three innings for the save. Nolan Ryan gave up four runs in four innings, then Hal Newhouser allowed three more in two innings. Game 6
Old Timers 4, Post Americans 1Al Spalding threw a complete game, only giving up five hits. Ted Williams's solo home run was all the scoring for the Post Americans. A three-run homer by George Davis off Whitey Ford made the score 4-0. Game 7
Old Timers 10, Post Americans 1This time it was Tim Keefe going the distance to win the series, allowing just a home run to Carl Yastrzemski. Catfish Hunter was blasted for seven runs in the first inning. Dan Brouthers hit a two-run homer and John Ward doubled two runs home. Brouthers went 4 for 5 with three doubles, a home run and four RBI. What a win for the Old Timers, down 3-1 and win the series. The Post Americans bullpen was worked hard. Hal Newhouser and Bob Feller worked in four games and Hoyt Wilhelm in three.
