I busted out the cards and have been playing some games. Last time I did table top strat was I bet over 15 years ago. I've been a computer player. Who else plays/played? I'm doing a round robin tournament with the HOF and the Negro League sets, best of seven series.

When I was a kid my dad introduced me to APBA baseball and that's pretty much what I stuck with but I have played Strato Matic. A year or so ago I started playing a little again and did a few series (best of seven) with the 2008 phillies against some other classic teams. I remember them losing to the 1909 Pirates and beating the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers.

Here's the stratomatic baseball league I'm doing right now. LOW is on hold. I'm using the Hall of Fame and the Negro League sets, playing card and dice. The teams are setup how they are in the computer game.
Negro League is divided into four teams: (home ballpark) Kansas City Monarchs (Muehlebach Field) Detroit Stars (Mack Park) Pittsburgh Crawfords Greenlee Field) Washington Homestead Grays Griffith Stadium)
The HOF set is made up of eight teams by era of baseball: (home ballpark) Pre-World War II National League (Ebbetts Field) Pre-World War II American League Yankee Stadium) Post World War II National League (Wrigley Field) Post World War II American League Fenway Park) Turn of the Century (Polo Grounds) Dead Ball Era (Shibe Park) Old Timers (Baker Bowl) Left Outs (Crosley Field)
Let me know if you want to see the rosters.
This is a round robin tournament, best of seven game series.

I certainly wasn't looking for the Old Timers to come from a 3-1 deficit to win the series in seven games. Especially after they lost the 17-inning marathonm in game four to fall behind 3-1.

Let's start with pitching. Pud Galvin didn't have it. He made it five innings, giving up eight runs on 16 hits. Detroit then had 10 hits the next 12 innings off three relievers. The Old Timers had 10 hits the last 11 innings of the game.
John Clarkson, an unbelievable effort out of the bullpen for the Old Timers. He pitched nine innings and took the loss. Clarkson gave up seven hits, two walks and struck out four. The Old Timers only have three pitchers in the bullpen. Mickey Welch went just one frame and Candy Cummings two.
The winning pitcher was Frank Wickaware. He went four innings, allowed three hits, three walks and fanned two. Rube Foster had a big outing, working five innings, allowing two hits and four walks.
Bill Monroe and Charles Blackwell four hits apiece for Detroit. The Stars left 20 men on base!!!!
Detroit scored eight runs the first five innings. Judy Johnson, making his first start of the season, had a home run and five RBI in his first two atbats.
Top of the 17th inning, Blackwell hit a solo home run 1-7 ballpark split off Clarkson to take the lead.
The Old Timers had the bases loaded in the 11th. In the 15th, Oscar Charleston threw out Bid McPhee at the plate 1-17 safe split. They had a leadoff double in the 16th and didn't score. Two men on in the 17th and a double play ended the game.

Man, I LOVE stats! It probably doesn't matter the sport, I find them very interesting! What team is Babe Ruth playing on? And how about Warren Spahn?
I really love this, keep it going!

Babe Ruth is on the Pre-Americans team, which would be American League HOFers from before World War II. The team rosters are setup the same as they are in the computer game. Warren Spahn in on the Post WWII National League team, and hasn't started out well. He's in the bullpen on that team.

I figured out the days each series ran and pitcher's rest. For something to do, if a series went 7 games then you don't get a day off before the next series. I gave one day off at the end of other series, unless the opposing team wasn't done so some teams got 2 days off. Just so not every series will see #1 vs. #1 starter, etc.
Start of Round 2
Game 1
Post Americans 2, Centurians 1
Centurians 000 001 000 - 1 8 1 Post Americans 101 000 000 - 2 6 1
WP: Ford LP: Mathewson SV: Fingers HR: Brett (1), Aparicio (1)
A nice opener with Whitey Ford out-dueling Christy Mathewson. Ford went seven, giving up seven hits and striking out five for his first tournament win. Rollie Fingers wrapped it up for his first save. Mathewson went five, allowing two solo home runs and only three hits total and he falls to 0-2 in the tournament.
George Brett hit his first home run of the tournament in the first for a 1-0 lead. Luis Aparicio belted a solo shot in the third to make it 2-0.
In the top of the sixth, the Centurians scored one run with two out. Singles by Honus Wagner, Joe Kelley and Hugh Duffy got them on the board.
I'll put the starting lineup for the opener so you can see some of the names.
Centurians Nap Lajoie, 2b Honus Wagner, ss Joe Kelley, cf Hugh Duffy, lf Sam Crawford, rf Jimmy Collins, 3b Hugh Jennings, 1b Roger Bresnahan, c Christy Mathewson, p
Post Americans Rod Carew, 2b George Brett, 3b Ted Williams, lf Mickey Mantle, cf Reggie Jackson, rf Carl Yastrzemski, 1b Yogi Berra, c Luis Aparicio, ss Whitey Ford, p

Game 2
Centurians 17, Post Americans 0
Centurians 370 241 000 - 17 16 0 Post Americans 000 000 000 - 0 4 3
WP: Joss LP: Hunter HR: Beckley (1)
The Centurians found their bats and pummeled Catfish Hunter to even the series at one game apiece. Jake Beckley went 4 for 6 with a double, home run and six RBI. Jimmy Collins had four RBI and Nap Lajoie hit three doubles.
Addie Joss shut down the Post Americans for his first tournament win. Joss pitched a four-hit shutout with three walks and six strikeouts. Hunter dropped his first decision, being hit for 10 runs on 10 hits in two innings.

When you play your games do you allow the starters to play the entire game? Or do you use them like an All-Star team and play them maybe 2-3 innings only? Also, how do you figure the batting order? Just put them where you want? Or do you research and see where most batted in the lineup?
I really dig this!

I play it like a full season or a tournament, and the starters play most if not the whole game. Pinch hit certain situation, make a double switch or defensive change, managing to win basically. I make a batting order how it looks good to me, speed on top, power, avg. Hard to make a bad lineup with these players.
Game 3
Centurians 13, Post Americans 7
Post Americans 122 110 000 - 7 8 4 Centurians 413 110 30x - 13 11 0
WP: Young LP: Palmer HR: Carew (1), Berra (2), Brett (2), Mantle (3), Wagner (1)
Another back and forth slugfest but the Centurians are on fire and the Polo Grounds contributed to the offense.
Nap Lajoie had two triples and three RBI. Jimmy Collins drove in three runs. Yogi Berra homered twice for the Post Americans.
Cy Young (1-1) lasted five innings for the win. Jim Palmer (1-2) gave up eight runs in three innings for the loss.

Game 4
Post Americans 2, Centurians 1
Post Americans 010 000 001 - 2 3 0 Centurians 000 000 100 - 1 7 1
WP: Fingers (1-1) LP: Willis (0-2) HR: Williams (4)
After tons of offense the last games, we revert back to great pitching in game four. Ted Williams hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth to give the Post Americans a 2-1 win and even the series at two games apiece.
In the second, Carlton Fisk hit a two-out double. Sam Crawford dropped a fly ball in rightfield to give the Post Americans a 1-0 lead.
Jake Beckley singled in the seventh and Roger Bresnahan tripled to tie the game in the seventh. Nolan Ryan got out of the jam with the game still tied 1-1.
Ryan went seven for a no-decision. Rube Waddell threw seven for a no-decision, allowing two hits and fanning six. Vic Willis took the loss, Rollie Fingers the win.
Game Notes: Honus Wagner had a 1-19 HR ballpark effect in the first and rolled a 20. Williams' HR was another ballpark effect at the Polo Grounds.

WP: Ford (2-0) LP: Rusie (0-1) HR: Williams (5), Brett (3), Berra (3)
The Post Americans take a 3-2 series lead after a 6-3 win at the Polo Grounds.
Ted Williams and Yogi Berra hit solo home runs off Christy Mathewson to lead 2-0 after five. In the bottom of the seventh, Sam Crawford tripled and scored on Hugh Jennings' double. A two-out, pinch-hit single by Wee Willie Keeler tied the game 2-2.
Amos Rusie gave up four runs in the top of the eighth. Berra doubled and Nellie Fox hit a pinch-hit triple. Rod Carew singled and George Brett hit a two-run homer for a 6-2 lead.
