Ever wonder why Vincent Kennedy McMahon hates Southern Style Wrestling so much?
Here's the story.Vince was Vinny Lupton,he lived with his mother in The Carolinas! He was harassed by the other kids.Vince didn't know who his father was until he was 12.Vince Jr started working with the WWWF at a young age.
While McMahon Jr learned from the best in the business, when he took over and renamed the company WWF,he no longer had the guidance of former coworkers. McMahon bought wrestlers' contracts essentially bankrupting Georgia Championship Wrestling and The AWA amongst others. So Monday Night Wars yadayadayada...
Monopolizing the business I guess sounded good at the time. But without credible match and characters that fans can get behind or earnestly hate, well WWE has neither and is going down fast.
Vince was jealous that other territories were drawing such big numbers.JCP was a big company that was headed by NWA President Jim Crockett Jr.Between the 80s and the 90s JCP was The Big Promotion. It had a hard hitting "realistic" style. While Vince featured Bodybuilders who generally couldn't work.WWWF had Sammartino,Pedro Morales, but they didn't like Vince Jr.'s ideas of how they should be used in his company.
So anyway moneywise Vince K. McMahon is the most prolific promoter in America.Talent wise not so much.Once again he resorted to buying out contracts and promoting wrestlers from lesser companys.Kevin Steen,Finn Balor,Charlotte and even AJ Styles didn't earn their spots.
Ok rant over but one last thing. Why is Vincent Lupton's middle name Kennedy? Is he named after Joe Kennedy?JFK wasn't famous until the 60s.He's not even from Kennedy's home state...

I have no clue about Lupton's name being Kennedy, sorry.
As for Vince, that's Vince being Vince. He's an alpha male and thinks things should only be HIS way (sounds like someone in office that will remain unnamed, haha).
Yeah, Vince's wrestling caters to the casual fan instead of the hardcore fan, always has. Hogan was just a brawler with a gimmick people liked (Hulking Up). Meanwhile, the NWA had Flair wrestling about 300 nights a year, a lot of which were 60 minute matches! I don't think Hogan EVER went 60 minutes!
Vince turned wrestling into a cartoon circus in the late '80s. It wasn't until Stone Cold emerged that Vince got serious!
As for talent, there really isn't that many left that really know wrestling holds, or how to grab a viewer's attention with a great interview the way Dusty, Jake Roberts, or Piper used to.
Of course, with that said, two of my faves are still George "The Animal" Steele and Mick Foley! At least Mick wrote some amusing books!

George Steele & Mick Foley were already famous from other wretling territories.Vince got a hold of them and one started eating turnbuckle covers and the other's finisher involved a sock puppet.
The thing that really made me angry was that McMahon bought The JCP collection from back in the NWA days.He owns all the Starrcades.Matches disappeared I saw a Minnesota Wrecking Crew vs R&R Express in a cage.Moton took such a beating he climbed out of the cage and left Robert Gibson to get pummeled.I can't find it anywhere. It's like it doesn't exist.
I couldn't believe McMahon wasn't from Conneticut originally. He's from the Carolina's and shouldknow what real wrestling is like.

Google didn't help you with that search for the MWC (not Married with Children, haha) vs R-n-R Ex? Wow, I thought you could find anything on the clearweb with Google!
And I didn't know VKM didn't grow up in CT!
While we are on the subject of the WWF, did you ever meet or talk to Muraco after he retired? Does he remember you from school? Just wondering that as I type this...
It would be cool if you could get his autograph at least!

Nope I think the only way to see the match is to find Best of Starrcade on vhs.
I met Don Muracco and Russ Francis in history class in 1972.Neither one remembers me. Bill Francis was the Safety at a middle school I worked at.

Wouldn't that have been cool if they DID remember you? I wish I knew someone famous!

And you had posted that video of Jennifer Love Hewitt in the background a few years ago! I bet she was WICKED hot in person!
I did see the J Geils band play in the early 80's and yelled out to one of the band members backstage after the show. The only other "famous people" encounter I had was when the rock group "The Tubes" played in West Hartford in '87! I got to go backstage for about 30 seconds and got autographs from the drummer, bassist, guitarist, and the lead guitarist! At that time, the lead singer (Fee Waybill) had left the band and they had some guy as their front man. At least the lead guitarist was friendly and didn't mind being bothered after the show!
Now only if I could have seen The Donnas play in concert! That woulda been AWEsome!

Yeah, that was back when JLH was HAWT, haha! Now? Not so much! I wonder how many actresses past right by you incognito and you didn't even realize who they were? Speaking of recognizing actresses, in my local grocery store in my hometown, I could have sworn I saw quite a few wrestlers and starlets, including: Katey Sagal, Roseanne Barr, Arn Anderson, Alyssa Milano, and more! If I didn't know better, I would have SWORN it was them! But you're right: Meeting The Tubes was VERY cool! They were all very friendly and I wish I still had their autographs!

That's neat-o!
And speaking of the J Geils band, the bassist (Danny Klein) had a cover group called Danny Klein's Full House that would play all the old Geils songs. They played in the local theater just down the street from where I'm at now a few years ago. My former co-worker went and ended up as the girlfriend of the lead singer! What a small world! I didn't go that night, but at least my co-worker had some good stories to tell!
If I ever do meet any more celebs, I will let you know!

Idk there was another band featuring the bassist. If you're covering song from your old band is it still original material?

I'm not sure if Danny Klein's band had any original new songs. My former co-worker is in Maine now, and I don't do FaceBook, so I can't ask her and find out.
She did show me some photos she took that night, I'm not sure the pics are still online. I will have to look.

It's still a cool thing.I never actually met him but the lead guitarist of Metellica lived in the next town. The REAL Hardbody Holly took care of his horses.I saw him once driving a white limo and smoking pot with his friend.
