Is the newer version anything like the origins The Thing? Starring James Harness? Dr B Hi, Dr B! The 1951 James Arness movie "The Thing from Another World" is NOT like the 1982 Carpenter movie "The Thing". The movies are both based on John W. Campbell's short story "Who Goes There?" written in 1938 however. The 1951 Thing was more of a living carrot, and it could reproduce itself like a vegetable (plant a piece in soil and it would grow new one), whereas the John Carpenter movie, The Thing was a shape-shifter that could absorb and duplicate humans and dogs perfectly. The 2011 prequel "The Thing" that starred Mary Elizabeth Winstead is regarded as a prequel to the 1982 Carpenter movie. As for "Who Goes There?", this was a story of a shape-shifter that could imitate humans and dogs. Whoever wrote the 1951 movie removed this element, so Carpenter put it back in for his 1982 movie. Ever read "Who Goes There?"? Here's a link to the entire 1938 story, from the Wayback Machine: web.archive.org/web/20040607031830/http://www.outpost31.com/books/who.txtAnd to get back to the 1951 movie, recognize James Arness? He portrayed Marshall Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke for 20 years! I hope that clears that up a bit? If not, here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Who_Goes_There%3FBTW, almost finished with The Thing Set that I'm making! Keep your eyes open for the release soon! Todd C WTIC

So the 82 Carpenter version is essentially STNG compared to TOS.Shapeshifter is a good gimmick could add some dimention to your game.

Thanks, Dr B!
Yeah I always found the idea of a shape-shifter fascinating!
